«The Berggruen Museum houses one of the world's most importan collections of classic Modernist art. The main focus of the collection is the work of Picasso, represented by some ninety pieces, as the culmination of Modernism. In the words of the colledtor Heinz Berggruen, Picasso represents the «great symphony» in twentieth-centruy art. Also in the collection are over fifty works by Paul Klee, the «master of chamber music» and one of Berggruen's first passions. Picasso and Klee are joined by Henri Matisse: nowhere else in Germany is there such a comprehensive and diverse display of his work. The works of Picasso, Klee and Matisse are set among pieces by their great contemporaries Alberto Giacometti, Henri Laurens and Georges Braque, and works of African sculpture. Thus the Berggruen Museum in Berlin-Charlottenburg presents a broad an unique panorama of Picasso and his Time.»
